“You’ll do fine.” The unicorn said.
“I don’t know what to do!” Atha’s voice was getting higher.
“Yes you do.” The Unicorn was calm. “You will remember.”
“But I don’t remember anything! What if I do something wrong? What if I-”
But the time for talking was over. Suddenly, several very extraordinary things happened all at once. The dragon reared on its haunches and screamed. Atha heard glass breaking. The scepter, already alight, began shooting out sparks. The dragon rose in the air abd breathed a furiously hot plume of flame. Atha felt paralyzed with fear-
……………………….But then, all at once, she was no longer afraid…………………………
In her mind’s eye, Atha saw tender green grass and butterflies, butterflies, butterflies. The sky overhead was so pure blue it made her eyes water. Her daddy was there, only he wasn’t dressed in his uniform from home, he was wearing a cape. And Atha was wearing a cape, too. And a wreath of flowers on her head.
That was cool!
And she knew, all at once, she knew.
She raised the scepter over her head and aimed it at the dragon. But he didn’t swoop down and strike withhis piercing claws or breath of fire. This was curious. What was that sound? Atha cocked her head and heard…
Crying. The dragon was sobbing great, gulping sobs. As he cried, she heard little plink-plink-plinks like somebody throwing pebbles at a window.
“Well now, ” said Atha. “This IS curious.”
Notes on creating the page:
Well, I guess I lied when I said the last page was the darkest, because this one is pretty dang dark. But we have now met the dragon and will soon learn his secret. So it’s really all uphill from here.
The background is made of papers from Snowraven’s free Medieval Dreams kit, Tina Williams’ Sweet Innocence kit, TraciJ’s Beyond Basic Black and one of TraciJ’s glitter overlays. The rest of it is poser graphics except for the one picture of Atha.
The fonts are A picture and goudy medieval
